The exhibit of local artists’ works, ARTIFACTS, is being held in the upper gallery at the Sooke Region Museum. The show runs to the end of May and features art which relates to the Sooke region, including Jordan River, East Sooke and Port Renfrew.
On Saturday, Mar 28 over 65 people attended the opening, with four pieces of art sold at the event.
Among the attendees was Sooke Councillor Brenda Parkinson and the Mayor of Oak Bay, Nils Jensen who purchased Linda Gordon's "Sheringham Lighthouse Fototgraffia".
Michel DesRocher sold a watercolor of Whiffen Spit, Linda Anderson sold her painting of a local heritage house, and Shannon-John Valentine sold his photo "Jordan River". It is notable that Mr. Valentine is not only a 5 year cancer survivor, but a Parkinson's person. He is overcoming his condition by using his creative talents and a rock steady tripod to make his remarkable photos sharp with a dramatic depth of field.
Unique art in this show is Bobbie Momsen's painted feathers, Linda Anderson's "Veritical Line Art" , and Linda Gordon's "Fotograffia", which is painting on photographs.
The ARTiFACTS show will feature an ever-changing variety of art as the buyer is able to take the art at the time of purchase. Thus, new art is continually brought in to refresh the exhibit as items are sold. The show is on daily, 9 am to 5 pm during Sooke Region Museum hours, but closed on Mondays.
