The deadline to submit nomination papers for next month’s provincial civic elections is today (Sept. 14).

If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a mayor, city councillor or school trustee, they have until 4 p.m. to file forms.

Candidates for council, mayor or school trustee must gather signatures from nominators – each town, city or district has different requirements. Those nominators must be eligible voters.

The campaign period begins on Sept. 22 and will continue until voting day on Oct. 20.

As of Friday morning, here’s a quick breakdown on the numbers who have filed nomination papers.:

District of Sooke: Three for mayor; 11 for municipal council

Sooke school district: five for trustee (Milnes Landing)

Juan de Fuca Electoral Area: two for director
