Sooke is in for another big blast of winter beginning this afternoon.
A snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada this morning is calling for “a long period of snowfall,” with more than 15 centimetres to fall in some areas.
“A second low pressure centre in as many days will give more snow to the South Coast beginning this afternoon and continuing into Tuesday morning,” said Environment Canada in the statement.

“This second disturbance will spread snow to virtually the entire South Coast with heaviest amounts falling tonight. Total snowfall amounts will vary across the region with 10 to 15 cm falling in most areas with somewhat higher amounts possible on Vancouver Island.”
Winter hit the Sooke Region with vengeance over the weekend, with snow totals of more than 20 centimetres, multiple vehicle accidents, road closures, widespread power outages, and community events cancelled.
B.C. Hydro customers are currently without power in East Sooke, Otter Point, Shirley and Port Renfrew.
“Challenging conditions have made it difficult to access some areas which is impacting restoration times,” B.C. Hydro said in a statement.
Schools are closed throughout the Sooke Region today.
