Fire closes West Coast Road

Sooke and Westshore area fire departments on the scene of a house fire

The road is closed on West Coast Road from just past Grant Road in Sooke  to before Kemp Lake store because of a house fire. A log structure burned and the fire is threatening nearby bushes and homes. Police may be evacuating homes in the area. Fire departments from View Royal, Langford, Otter Point, Sooke, Metchosin and East Sooke have responded.

Drivers in either direction are being rerouted via Otter Point Road to Kemp Lake Road and onto West Coast Road beyond the fire.

Fire Chief Steve Sorensen said the fire is under control but there has been some evacuating. Sources say the Coastal Fire Centre is sending in crews to help.
