The District of Sooke will no longer permit parking on Highway 14, near the Prestige Oceanfront Hotel and Sooke Harbour Resort and Marina.

For years, area residents and others have complained of parking congestion in the area.

The district recently leased a lot at the bottom of Maple Avenue to ease parking congestion in the area.

Mayor Maja Tait said parking along Highway 14 is hazardous for both pedestrians and cyclists.

There is a $50 fine for illegal parking in the district.
