Sooke RCMP finally has a sergeant.
Cpl. Clayton Wiebe of Kelowna RCMP is expected in Sooke soon, with a promotion to sergeant.
He has 20 years in the RCMP and spent most of his career investigating serious crimes.
Wiebe is moving to Sooke with his wife and dog. His most recent position with the RCMP was investigating and supervising serious crimes such as bank robberies, violent crimes and homicides.
He has worked and lived in Kelowna for 17 years, and thought it was time for change, so when he saw the job posting in Sooke, he decided to apply.
“From what I can see Sooke has a lot to offer my wife and I. We both enjoy the outdoors, hiking in the woods with our dog, and I enjoy mountain biking. The climate in Sooke is also appealing, and we have both been interested in Vancouver Island,” Wiebe said,.
“I look forward to learning about fishing in the ocean. Being from Saskatchewan, I have only had one opportunity to fish on the ocean so I am looking forward to that.”
Wiebe hopes to move here aby the end of April, where he will be in charge of operations at the Sooke detachment, reporting to Staff Sgt. Jeff McArthur.
“I am looking forward to getting back into a smaller detachment. I have worked in detachments where there are five police officers up to detachments where there are over 200 police officers. I prefer the smaller detachments so the size of the Sooke office and the community itself was appealing to my wife and I,” Wiebe said.
