The Royal Canadian Legion took another step forward in opening its doors to the public.
Sooke council pushed a rezoning application ahead for final approval last week after a public hearing.
Legion officials are seeking a change of zoning which will allow it to sell alcohol to the public. Most legions are considered private clubs.

In January 2017, the B.C. Liquor Control Licensing Board allowed service clubs to transition their liquor primary club licence to a liquor primary licence allowing them access to a larger market.
The new policy requires the clubs are in compliance with local zoning regulations.
The legion, which has operated since 1926, plans to permit the sale of alcohol at its clubhouse at 6726 Eustace Rd. that supports the organization and senior, youth and veteran groups in Sooke.
District staff recommended the application proceed. The zoning bylaw has general requirements for landscaping, parking, public safety and pedestrian access. No changes in the building or seating capacity will change.
There was general support for the change at the public hearing, but there was some concerns with extra traffic on Gatewood Road and public parking.
