A 21-year-old man and 23-year-old woman have been arrested following an altercation on a B.C. Transit bus, Sooke RCMP say.

Officers were called to the 5100 block of Sooke Road, near 17 Mile Pub, around 5 p.m. Wednesday after reports of a fight between passengers and the suspects, both Sooke residents.

Police say the man spit and punched a male passenger.

Sooke RCMP Cpl. Joe Holmes said while the bus driver pulled over near 17 Mile Pub and phoned police, another passenger removed both suspects from the bus, at which point the male suspect ran across Sooke Road and was struck by a passing vehicle.

Both suspects were taken into custody.

“There were no apparent injuries, however, he (the male suspect) was transported to the hospital to be looked at and was returned to the cells as he was still aggressive and unsafe for release,” Holmes said.

“Alcohol and possibly drugs appeared to be a factor.”

Holmes said both individuals are known to police.

No names were released.

The suspects were released and are expected to be charged with assault.
