Two Sooke sports groups are looking for funding to do major upgrades to their facilities.
The Sooke Tennis and Pickleball Group and Sooke Minor Fastball Association both appeared before council Monday asking for grants.

STPG asked council for $30,000 to resurface, repaint, and to get new equipment for the Throup Road tennis courts.
“Since consulting with experts regarding the present condition of the 30-year-old surface of these courts, we’ve determined that the asphalt is degrading and porous and should be resurfaced not only to preserve it, but for safety and visual appeal,” said Marilyn Erikson, the group’s spokesperson.
SMFA asked council for $84, 620 for upgrades to Art Morris Park, including batting cage improvements, a ballpark security gate replacement, lawn maintenance, roof replacements for the dugouts and clubhouse, and upgrades to the fields’ fences.
The Sooke Community Association owns both the courts and the fields, but are unable to fund the upgrades.
Councillors suggested the two groups meet with the community association, District of Sooke and SEAPARC officials to discuss ways on how to find funding for the projects, and possible opportunities moving forward.
