Beloved husband of Pauline, father of Paul, Jill (Mark)
and Jackie (Ron), grandfather of Aaron, Cassidy and Jory,
and brother of Nora, passed away on Christmas Day. Alan
was born in Sheffi eld, England, and began his seafaring
career during the Second World War at the age of 16 as
an offi cer cadet in the British Merchant Service. He lost
his ship on his fi rst voyage due to enemy action. Alan
continued his career after the war with the same company
for 20 years, becoming a master. For fi ve years he worked
for the Government of Kuwait as a shipping inspector. In
1968, he settled with his family in Victoria where he joined
the Canadian Hydrographic Service; Alan was the master
of the C.S.S. Parizeau until his retirement. The family wish
to thank the staff of the Neuroscience’s Centre at the
Victoria General Hospital for their loving care. A memorial
service was held for Alan at Holy Trinity Anglican Church (1962 Murray Road) in Sooke at 2 P.M. on Friday, January
2, 2009. In lieu of fl owers, the family ask that donations be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, or the Red Cross.
