January 6, 1944 - October 21, 2019
It is with sadness to announce the passing of Barry Antony Harvey Pearce on October 21, 2019 at the age of 75. Barry was born on January 6, 1944 in St. Anne's Lancashire, England. He immigrated to Canada and grew up in North Vancouver with his twin sisters Dru and Liz, and his brothers Mike and Phil. Barry is predeceased by his mother and father, his older brother Mike, and his wife Nancy. Barry is survived by sisters Liz (Rick) and Dru (Wil), his brother Phil (Bianca), his son Richard (Tiffany), his daughter Rose, and his grandchildren Alex, Anna, Liam and Olivia. In 1973 Barry and Nancy moved to Sooke on Vancouver Island where Barry built the family home. Together both Barry and Nancy raised two children (Richard and Rosie) and one Jack Russell terrier named Cindy. Barry was active in the Sooke community. He was a past President of the Sooke Fall Fair, coached his kids soccer teams (the Sooke Vikings), and enjoyed having a gin and tonic on the patio with Nancy after a long day of gardening. Barry's other "love" aside from Nancy were his vintage cars, which included Sunbeam Tigers and a 1956 Ford Pickup. Sadly, Nancy passed away in 1997 resulting in the loss of Barry's true love and best friend. Barry's final years were spent battling dementia, and the family wishes to thank the staff at both Beckley Farm Lodge, the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their compassionate care of Barry, as well as those friends in Sooke who helped look after Barry as his illness progressed.
There will be a celebration of his life that will be held Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Prestige Hotel at 6929 West Coast Road, Sooke. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
