Cornbill, Catherine Ellen (Cathy), nee Zettel passed away after a long and courageous battle with lung disease and other complications, at Victoria General Hospital, on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Cathy was 67 years old.
Survived by her two sons, Douglas and wife Renee of Sooke, and Donald Cornbill and wife Rene of Campbell River. Five grandsons: Brandon, Ryan, Austin, Oliver and Noah, her brother James (Jim) Zettel and his wife, Lucie. Her sister-in-law Doris Zettel of Kitchener, Ont, her nephew Chad Zettel and wife Angela and their son Dominic from Calgary, her niece Carole Zettel-Lindner and husband Kevin of Kitchener and their daughter Hazel.
Cathy is predeceased by her husband Wayne Cornbill, both her parents and two brothers, David and William.
Family was everything to Cathy; she loved her family. She lived for her children and grandchildren. The proof was in her fight to live and the joy you could see when she spoke of them. She persevered and fought against her illness when most people have given up hope.
Cathy has been a "Sookite" since the early seventies. She worked at Sunny Shores for a summer as a cook, For many years, she was the smiling and bubbly face you would see when you went to the Sooke Corner Store (when it was there). Cathy was very much involved for years with the Sooke Hawk softball team. Lately, she found joy and entertainment in Nascar races and had her little group of fans who followed the progress of the racers together.
Cathy is greatly missed. We have to remember that even though she has left us in this physical world, she will forever be in our hearts and probably watching over us and saying "Love you guys."
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Sooke Legion (downstairs) on Saturday, September 22nd, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Lung Association or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be much appreciated.
