Betty RUMSBY (nee LENCE), born in Fife Lake, SK on November 24, 1929, passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital, at the age of 94, on December 5, 2023. Betty was a long-time Sooke resident, having met and married the love of her life, Larry Rumsby, where they raised their 7 children.
Betty is pre-deceased by her loving husband of 69 years, Larry Rumsby, her elder sister, Mary Radies and younger sister, Clara Doreen Lence.
She is survived by youngest sister, Clara Pauline (Ernest) Hansen & Betty's 7 children; Lorna, Stephen (Michelle), Peter (Deborah), Chris (Susan), Maureen (Boh), Brian (Laura) & Karen (Reece) & 11 grandchildren, Robin, Zachary (Alex), Rebekah (Corrie), Scott, Travis (Amanda), Lance, Sean (Meagan), Chelsea (Reece) Leland (Shanisse), Jennifer (Chris) & Kaitlyn; & 6 great-grandchildren; Vienna, Hope, Ledger, Kylee, Knox & Austin.
Betty grew up in Rockglen SK. After graduating, she moved to Victoria BC to attend St. Joseph's School of Nursing, where she met Larry via room-mate & future sister-in-law.
Betty had a servant's heart, always giving to her community - she was an active member at St. Rose of Lima church; participated as a member of the Altar Society, added her strong singing voice to the church choir, and with a passion for gardening, loved to do the flower arrangements for Sunday Mass.
Betty also led the Sooke, "Meals on Wheels" program for many years & was well-known in her community for her amazing baking skills - often sharing this gift toward a variety of good causes. Betty & Larry's home was always a welcoming place for family, friends & visitors, new & old!
A funeral will be held in April 2024 at St. Rose of Lima Church, Sooke, BC. TBA
