December 22, 1941 - July 24, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom. Born in Simpson Saskatchewan, Esther was raised by parents Esther and Harry Baade and alongside siblings Charlotte Anne, Claudia Leigh, Henry, and David. She moved with her family at the age of five to their grand farmhouse in Brentwood attending Mount Newton and making many friends that she remained close with throughout her lifetime. Esther independently raised her three kids with pride. Survived by her children Mike, Janine (Keith), and Dave (Tammy); grandchildren, Robyn, Doug, Jordan (Sydney), Dallas, Taylor (Nik) and Scott; and her great grandchild Callahan, her sister Charlotte Anne and brother Henry.
Esther had an eye for quality but took great pleasure in a deal or discount above all. Her sense of humour was infectious, leaving us with fond memories of her many entertaining escapades. She loved debating world politics, listening to Nana Mouskouri, and watching the birds that were attracted to her beautiful flower gardens.
She was known for her intricate gingerbread houses at Christmas, and tasty popcorn balls at Halloween. Esther was proud of her career with Canada Post and her title of Sooke Post Mistress, often being able to identify locals by name, address and PO box number. She never complained about her health, always more interested in asking about the wellbeing of her doctors and their families. She bragged about her kids, grandkids and extended family whenever she had the chance.
We will cherish the happy memory and recent photos of a family barbeque held in her backyard only weeks ago. She could be such fun and will be missed.
Esther's family expresses their gratitude to the dedicated staff at Victoria General and the BC Cancer Clinic at Royal Jubilee Hospital. They were so gracious, brightening her final years.
The family will be hosting an Open House to honor Esther's life on Saturday, August 27th, from 1-5pm at her home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.
