In loving memory ~
Don passed peacefully on the 6th of January 2023 his 76th year. He was a lifetime resident of Sooke, B.C. where he will be remembered for his colourful personality, a character never short of opinion or passionate remarks. He was a true friend, kind, for those whom he loved and trusted, unfailing in his support. However, he could be a bit problematic if he was slighted, felt there was animosity, or "they'' were trying to take unfair advantage, he was consistently Don Smith, "Hay You"!
An accomplished athlete and coach, enjoying the fellowship of his teammates, and friendly competition of his several chosen activities, notably Fastball, Golf, or Riding a bike. He was interested in all sports, participating or watching the games always enthusiastic, always competitive. For a time, Don was a proud, patient, determined fastball coach. He was focused on his individual players sharing his knowledge, effective instruction, mentorship, encouraging them to excel individually and collectively. He inspired confidence, earning the respect, friendship of many through the years.
Industrious Don always, many tasks and jobs to keep himself working, busy with projects in his shop, his excavator, helping his friends, his favourite past time rebuilding, restoring to perfection his Model T {forever a work in progress).
In 2012 Don married the love of his life, sweetheart of his youth, Lori (nee Kwasnycia), regrettably the union was all too brief as Lori predeceased Don in 2014. Don cherished the memories of their union, in his words his Angel.
We will miss his bombastic remarks, quick wit, stubborn determination, fierce loyalty, kindness, and generosity. He was one of a kind, a unique individual who did the best he could, overcoming significant adversity, living his life with purpose and determination.
Hay You!
Be at peace and rest easy,
you are loved, and missed.
