Steve Vowles (Black Duck/Blackie) passed away on July 27, 2023 at the age of 83.
Steve was born February 22, 1940 to Bill and Sarah Vowles. One of 14 children, he grew up on Maple Avenue in Sooke where they all worked hard in the family seafood business. He met and married his true love, Bea and they raised 2 daughters - Melody and Marlaine. Steve worked as a logger, worked on the booms for Malloch & Moseley at Muir Creek, owned commercial fishing boats - the Denise M and the Caribac, fished on the Ocean King and owned Sooke Seafood Ltd. fishing for crab and shrimp.
He loved hunting, fishing, cooking, woodworking, gardening, reading, helping others and spending time with family and friends.
Steve was pre-deceased by his loving wife Bea, daughter Marlaine, parents Bill and Sarah Vowles, brothers David, Joe, Tuck, Rudy, Wally and sisters Gloria, Viola, Jean, Beverly and Marilyn.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Melody (Mark), grandchildren Lori, Jordan (Sarah), Kaitlin and Jared, great granddaughter Kailey, great great grandson Tanner, sisters Laura and Linda, brother Ray and many relatives and friends.
Truly one of a kind, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
