LETTER: Pat Bay Highway construction giving drivers a rough ride

The project to add a flyover at Keating Cross Road and the Pat Bay Highway in Central Saanich is on time and budget according to the Ministry of Transportation. (Black Press Media file photo)

We all expect and live with the conditions driving through the Keating “flyover” during construction, but the job the paving company has done patching the holes on the highway is nothing short of terrible.

What they have done, whether planned or through poor workmanship, is create about six speed bumps between the construction area itself and Island Beach Road in the northbound lane. There is no construction in this area. These aren’t just small rough areas, these are sizable ridges across both lanes that jar a car’s suspension seriously even at the posted speed of 60km-h.

We have two years, at least, of driving this stretch and having to slow down at each speed bump.

The roads in Saanich are bad enough, we shouldn’t have to dodge speed bumps on the highway.
