Letters: Don't be distracted

Talking on a cell phone or texting is illegal and unsafe

I am appalled by how many people are still using handheld devices while driving.

Obviously, the message isn’t getting across to many drivers with the current fines.

I think a more effective deterrent in addition to the fines would be to start impounding for at least 30 days the mobile devices of those drivers who continue to break the law. Mobile devices, especially phones, seem to be something that they can’t do without. Who knows?

We may see less of these distracted drivers on the road because they won’t want to leave the house in case someone calls.
