While attending Sookarama hosted by the Sooke Lions at SEAPARC Recreation Centre recently, a resident asked me whether the provincial government would commit to further investments in Highway 14 and other infrastructure to support Sooke’s growth. My response: You bet.

Since taking office as MLA last July, I have dedicated myself to delivering the transportation and infrastructure improvements our community rightfully deserves. This is a stark contrast to the previous 16 years under the BC Liberals, now re-branded as the BC United Party, during which communities like Sooke were largely neglected, receiving minimal investment.

We have already made significant strides with necessary upgrades to Highway 14.

A few weeks ago, I was proud to announce a $1 million investment in active transportation grants for the District of Sooke. This funding will enhance Charters Road and support the creation of a new multi-use trail and pathway. This trail is set to provide a crucial connection from Sun River to Ravens Ridge Park, linking directly with Sooke’s downtown core.

This initiative complements an additional $6 million from the Growing Communities Fund for vital projects such as the Church Road roundabout.

I will continue to advocate for more transportation and infrastructure investments, ensuring that our community not only keeps pace but thrives as it expands. Part of this vision is to generate more good-paying jobs in Sooke, helping residents reduce their commutes and enjoy a higher quality of life closer to home.

I am engaging with the District of Sooke to advocate for and encourage improvement to the interior road infrastructure to maintain smooth traffic flow throughout the community. I am optimistic that the mayor and council will rise to the occasion and collaborate with my office and other stakeholders to foster the growth and prosperity of our beloved community.

As Sooke grows, our actions today will lay the foundation for a vibrant, accessible, and thriving community. As long as I’m your MLA, I’ll keep us moving forward.
