Sooke Basketball Club members are working on a different kind of hardwood to fuel a trip to Denmark.

About 30 players are fundraising for a spring break trip by selling raffle tickets to win a bin full of more than two chords of firewood they have chopped, split and stacked themselves.

“I hope that the community comes out in droves to support their efforts,” said coach Trevor Bligh. “”After 30 years of coaching, I’m sure there’s a large contingent of alumni out there eager to step up and help as well.

“We’ve had kids from all over Denmark who attend EVN School in Nyborg, Denmark come here every two years for the past 14 years, but this is the first time we’re heading there.”

The fact that EVN is providing accommodation, food, transportation, and sightseeing arrangements is a big help, Bligh said.

Tickets, which cost $5 for three and $10 for 10, are available until Dec. 1 at Pemberton Holmes at #21-6716 West Coast Rd., and at a number of pop-up locations.
