When the Victoria Grizzlies face-off against the Coquitlam Express at the Q Centre on Saturday, Feb. 12, they’ll also be taking a shot to Help Fill A Dream through a number of crowd-involved events and opportunities.
The first in-person fundraising event since 2019 will see $5 from each adult and $3 from each youth ticket purchased donated directly to the Help Fill A Dream fundraiser. “Chuck-a-puck” will also contribute to the fundraiser, with participants vying for a special prize pot of $1,000 courtesy of BC Transit. Fans will also have a chance to “shoot-to-win” a car from Galaxy Motors. Finally, an auction for that night’s commemorative jersey designed by Grizzly Jackson Morehouse, golf and fishing charters and speed skating lessons will be held.
The Hyatt Foundation has pledged to match the first $15,000 raised for Help Fill A Dream on Feb. 12.
The Help Fill A Dream Foundation benefits families whose children have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness or experienced a critical injury. “We try to pick up the practical and financial worry, allowing parents to focus on the most important thing: the health of their child,” said the foundation on their website.
“With the whole hockey-loving community’s help it is hoped a total of $35,000 can be reached overall,” said the Grizzlies in a press release. “It will be a wonderful return to fundraising events after a difficult period for donation-dependent organizations.”
The night of the game, the Q Centre will be operating at 50 per cent capacity and enforcing social distancing. Proof of double vaccination and government-issued ID will be required for attendees age 12 and up as per the provincial health order.
