The Sooke fastball season is officially in full swing.

The Sooke U12 girls team hosted the Finn Kennedy Memorial tournament over the weekend at Art Morris Park.

Sooke placed silver after losing 14-13 against Peninsula in the final on Sunday afternoon.

Five teams participated in the tournament, and Sooke played six games – four round robin and two playoff.

“It was a great weekend. The weather was warm, everyone was in good spirits, and the umpires did an amazing job,” said Len Sudlow, president of Sooke Minor Fastball.

Following the weekend’s tournament, Men’s and youth teams alike have lots to look forward to with upcoming games taking place all summer at Art Morris Park.

There are four teams in the men’s league, with games scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday until the end of July, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Art Morris Park. This Thursday, May 17, Fenway will take on the hammers.

“Come on down and enjoy the excitement and some great ballpark food, cooked up by the local Lions club,” said Georgia Medwedrich, who keeps score of the games.

The opening game for the Sooke men’s fastball league took place May 1, when the Hammers took on Compass. The final score was tied 2-2.

“With stands freshly painted and the smell of hot dogs and fries cooking, sun shining, what more could you ask for,” said Medwedrich.

The next girls fastball game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16 at Art Morris Park, where the Sooke U16 C girls will take on Langford.
