More than 25 local employers participated in the WorkBC Centre Sooke job fair held on Saturday at Edward Milne School in Sooke.

The job fair offered a wide range of employment opportunities, from entry-level to senior positions, with both full-time and part-time options available.

“Sooke’s population is growing rapidly, with a significant number of working-age adults in the region,” said Peter Doukakis, executive director of WorkLink Employment Society. “The Sooke Job Fair aimed to connect job seekers with local employers offering sustainable employment opportunities and resources.”

According to Statistics Canada’s 2021 census, the population of East Sooke to Port Renfrew has experienced a significant annual growth rate of 16 per cent.

Representatives from WorkBC Centre Sooke were present to assist job seekers in preparing for productive initial conversations with potential employers.

In addition to the job fair, WorkBC offers free employment services to eligible job seekers. These services include one-on-one support for resume and cover letter writing, job coaching, career planning, information on accessing the Wage Subsidy program, and financial assistance for work clothing and certifications.
