Temperatures soared above 30 C in the three cities that took part: Castlegar, Trail and Nelson with various games played in each of those locations. There were several events held from Aug. 16 to 20 that included badminton, bowling, curling, ice hockey, slo-pitch, soccer, tennis, track and field, cycling, darts and even horseshoes.

Sooke on triathlon world stage

Sunday, Aug. 7 started with the familiar Sooke harbour fog, but soon cleared providing a beautiful backdrop for the 2011 Sooke Subaru International Triathlon. Race day started early with events including Half Ironman, Olympic, and Sprint Distance races, as well as relays in all three events. Sooke Triathletes gave it their all, with excellent results across the field.

Dante Morandin, left, and Norris Wass-Little played for Team B.C. in the Boys U14 National Provincial Festival at UBC this past weekend. The festival featured teams from B.C., Ontario and Alberta, with B.C. defeating Ontario in overtime. Both boys were also selected and played in the Islands first Under-14 Boys Youth Elite Sevens competition held at UVic July 15 to 16.
